Because of its strategic position on the Western Cleddau, Haverfordwest became a hub of trade and activity. Haverfordwest has been an important hub for Pembrokeshire since the early medieval period and remains the county town.

The town also has its dark side. In the 1950s, one of the last people ever to be legally hanged in the UK came from here – the case of the gruesome clay pit murders!
